German Culture and the GACC-CO in the Rocky Mountain Region
The German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC) together with the German Cultural Foundation (GCF) conducts many German-American cultural events in our state and region. We also support our local German cultural and German heritage communities, educational organisations and institutions and their events. Both the GACC as well as the GCF are non-profit organizations intended to both conduct and promote German cultural groups and activities in the State of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
Working together with the other German and European cultural groups we hold and also support events that are educational, national and traditional and linguistic in nature; from “Stammtische”, to film events, festivals such as the Oktoberfest, European fencing competitions, trachten and traditional dancing, genealogical research gatherings and much more. The GACC-CO also maintains a list of German activities, clubs, restuarants, dellis, srvices etc. in Colorado which may be requested by clicking here.
The GACC and GCF’s largest yearly cultural event is the “Denver Christkindlmarket” with over 60,000 visitors n 2011, located at Skyline Park on the 16th Street Mall in the very heart of Denver. The year 2012 marks he 11th year for this GACC market event; an annual success in the Metro Denver area. The market normally runs for four weeks from the Friday after Thanksgiving until about Christmas Eve. It enjoys the support of the City of Denver and the Denver Downtown Partnership (DDP). The Christkindlmarket is a traditional German Christmas market in the fashion of markets around Germany at this time of year, bringing to life the atmosphere, music, and gastronomy of Germany and offering traditional gifts and products from Europe and abroad.
We also hold our annual "Biergarten Festival" each year in July. The 2012 event will be 16th year. It is true to it’s name in nature and in 2011 attract 1,100 visitors. This festival features traditional German costumes and dancing, German beer and traditional German culinary delights, activities and outstanding authentic Biergarten atmosphere found mostly in southern Germany.
