German Culture and the GACC in the Rocky Mountain Region
The German American Chamber of Commerce (GACC) together with the German Cultural Foundation (GCF) conducts many German-American cultural events in our state and region. We also support our local German cultural and German heritage communities, educational organisations and institutions and their events. Both the GACC as well as the GCF are non-profit organisations designed to both to conduct and promote German cultural groups and activities in the state of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain Region.
Working together with the other German and European oriented cultural groups we publish and support events which are educational, national and traditional and linguistic in nature; from “Stammtische”, to Film events, festivals such as the Oktoberfest, European fencing competitions, Trachten and Traditional Dancing, Genealogical research gatherings and much, much more.
The GACC and GCF’s largest yearly cultural event is the “Denver Christkindlmarket” with over 15,000 visitors annually, located at Skyline Park on the 16th Street Mall in the very heart of Denver. This year makes for the first decade of this GACC market event, its 10th year of success in the Metro Denver area. This very large event runs for four weeks from November up till Christmas Eve. It is directly supported by the City of Denver and the Denver Downtown Partnership (DDP). The Christkindlmarket is a traditional German Christmas market in the fashion of markets around Germany at this time of year, bringing to life the atmosphere, music, and gastronomy of Germany and offering traditional gifts and products from Europe and abroad.
We also conduct our annual “Biergarten Party” each year in July, which is now boasting its 14th year. It is true to it’s name in nature and yearly sports more than 500 visitors. This festival sports traditional costume and dance, German Beers and traditional German culinary delights, activities and an astounding amount of authentic Biergarten atmosphere.
